Although new treatments such as Latisse have helped many people who desire fuller eyelashes, there are many people who don’t benefit from Latisse for a variety of reasons such as eye and skin sensitivity. Eyelash transplant is surgical procedure where hair from the back of the scalp is indivdually placed in the eyelid using advanced microscpic techniues.
Eyelash Transplant Surgery
Eyelash transplant surgery is performed under local anesthesia with LITE™ Anesthesia using medicine like liquid Valium placed through your vein (IV or intravenous) at our JCHO (Joint Commission) certified facilities.
You will be comfortable and unaware of the procedure being performed. After an eyelash transplant, patients with a soft protective google over the eyes the first few nights.
Like other hair transplanted from the scalp, eyelashes will grow much longer than regular eyelashes. They will need to be trimmed and curled as well as tinted (if the lashes are light in color).

Eyelash Transplant Consultation
With eyelash transplants, as in any hair restoration, a consultation with Dr. Prasad will be the first step. The focus of the consultation will be to determine the cause of eyelash loss before any surgical plans for eyelash transplants are made. It’s important to know whether eyebrows have been lost from medical conditions that need to be addressed separately – such as hypothyroidism, or psychiatric illness – such as trichotillomania, where patients pull out their own hair. Medical conditions will first need to be evaluated and treated.
While it’s possible to transplant lower lashes, there is a risk of a condition called trichiasis in which eyelashes turn inwards. When this occurs naturally, patients have to undergo surgery or the lashes irritate the eye and cause infection and eventual blindness. Patients who wish to have their lower eyelashes restored through eyelash transplants are counseled about the greater risk and the need for caution.
